If I was managing a a district with 50,000 devices, I would most likely have different answers here.64bit Apache Awstats cakePHP CentOS Commandline cran-r CSS Debian Firefox Functions Gnome Graphs Kernel LaTeX Linux Mac OS X Math Mint Monitoring MySQL N900 Networking Numbers Office osTicket OTRS PHP Programming Python R Security SVN TeX tinyMCE Tomato Ubuntu Vista VMware Webdesign Windows Wireless Wordpress WRT54GL X(HTML) For things like projectors and other expensive peripherals, we just use custom databases or Google Sheets.Īgain, the right choice for you is going to depend on your demographics. If we need to run advanced reports, we can always export the data for fast manipulation in a database or spreadsheet. We use our MDM (JAMF Pro) for our inventory of devices. The above being said, we use FreshDesk for ticketing (it is cloud-based, but save yourself the hassle of starting with a less than optimal system that your staff then learn how to hate and never use, and you don't have to migrate later to a "better" system, which will just cause more signet with your users. Bonus points if you have can have multiple KB's based on permissions: one for staff, one for students, and one for tech staff. If you have a well-written KB, your teachers will use it, and cut down on support burdens. For example, tagging articles with related words so when a teacher needs help with their projector, and they type "whiteboard" into the search field, they will also get projector articles. Having an easy to use KB that has a good search interface and back-end.

My two cents - your mileage will vary based on the size of district and the type of staff you have, both in the IT department and in the school at large: The less the user have to click/type/log into, the better! Ticket creation without logging into the help-desk system. This is pretty standard, I think all systems have this now. I could then create an desktop icon on all devices or bookmark on everyone's browser for easy access.Įmail agents when ticket is received. I was in a schooldude district and we couldn't get people to submit tickets because the process was so tedious with all the options but UVDesk seems too vague (but honestly comparable to sending an email). Has to be locally hosted ( free) until benefits are realized and probably converted over to cloud + support package purchased.Įmail to Ticket is a cool feature as our current support is via email only, but I would like a customized ticket creation form. Very small district, less than 1k students, 3 campuses.

UVDesk - My least favorite of the bunch, it seems a bit limited on the free package as far as customization (ticket forms). Not sure if it can keep up with who has what and devices that are off the network. Spiceworks - Seems like a decent system all around. OSTicket - I like because it seems pretty customizable and email-to-ticket functionality seems helpful I think I'm sold on Snipe-IT as far as asset management.

First off, I'm looking for a support ticket system. But recently I think I'll plan for the long term and try to deploy something that's already established and can be supported long after I leave here. Initially my plan was to create an inventory system and ticketing system from scratch, primarily for my resume, but if it works for work, that's a bonus too.
